The Assignment
For our interview and title sequence assignment, we had to pick one person that we knew and execute a 1:30 minute interview on any topic. For that same interview, we then had to animate a 30 second title sequence similar to the ones you’d see at the beginning of movies.
For this assignment, I chose my grandfather, who is a war veteran and served during the time of the Vietnam war. Throughout my life my grandfather has been one of my biggest inspirations and one of the strongest people I know, so it was easy when it came to deciding who to interview.
Storyboard
My storyboard, admittedly, was all over the place. I knew what I wanted my animation to look like in my head but struggled putting my ideas down on paper. I knew I wanted to have smooth transitions but also a stop motion/grunge-style animation. I looked at a lot of movie credits before starting this project, like Captain America, The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, Sherlock Holmes, and a bunch of others that had a similar vibe and aesthetic I was going for.

Reflection
At first I was a little unsure about my interview topic. Some veterans are uncomfortable talking about their service experience. But not my grandfather. He was more than excited to talk about his experience and the items he saved from his time serving. He wen’t out of his way to set up his uniform the way he wanted, and even wrote down notes so he wouldn’t forget to say anything.
My grandfather is one of the strongest individuals I know. I had so much fun recording this with him, and even though he was nervous at first, he expressed his appreciation about being interviewed for the first time.
